Mott MacDonald moves its Liverpool office downstairs

Global engineering, management and development consultancy Mott MacDonald has relocated its Liverpool team to larger offices on the ground floor of the iconic Royal Liver Building in the centre of the city. The move will enable the consultancy to expand its local workforce and strengthen its support of opportunities provided by the Northern Powerhouse initiative and Transport for the North, Peel Ports, and long-term development engineering projects such as Northern Hub and HS2.

Mott MacDonald’s association with Liverpool goes back over 80 years and the company has been involved in some of the region’s most well-known infrastructure projects. It designed the Queensway and Kingsway road tunnels, the Silver Jubilee Bridge and the Merseyrail Underground System. Nowadays the company offers a much wider range of services from transport planning, buildings and infrastructure, ports and harbours to economic research. During its time in the city it has developed many long-lasting relationships with a wide range of clients including local authorities, service providers and private enterprise.

The new office can accommodate up to 100 staff who currently support the delivery of projects such as Chester Bus Interchange, various work for both Everton and Liverpool football clubs, numerous Merseytunnel assessment works, the Liverpool Waters Energy Strategy, a new education campus in Whitehaven, Christleton International Studio near Chester and Liverpool2 port.

Dave Drury, a director at Mott MacDonald and office lead for Liverpool, said: “It is a crucial time for Liverpool and the region as potential infrastructure developments seek to boost economic growth in the North of England. Maximising the relationship between ports on the east and west coasts is important, as is improving transport connectivity to allow firms to draw workers from one city region to another. This can only be achieved through greater capacity and speed on east-west links, such as improved rail and road connections, as well as enhancements to local infrastructure and services. We’re excited to be growing our presence in Liverpool to support our clients’ ambitions at such a significant time.”
