Mott MacDonald is leading the way on sustainability with new integrated sustainability reporting on its website. This new innovative way of reporting is helping the consultancy to address the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), providing key indicators on how it is performing and allowing people to see current growth.
The reporting is the first of its kind for a consultancy and Mott MacDonald hopes to lead the way in transparency on the push for sustainability. Located on the consultancy’s website, the reporting allows clients, employees and the public the chance to review progress on improving the business.
A fundamental part of the reporting is the integrated thinking aspect which allows a selection of indicators based on their materiality to the company, bringing together sustainability in all areas of the business and showing how they are interlinked. The four areas covered on the site cover each of the core focus points of Mott MacDonald – Our Projects, Our People, Our Business and Our Community. The sections detail how they are fulfilling sustainability and what SDG is being accomplished, which is often more than one.
For example, in the Our Projects section Mott MacDonald’s carbon reduction initiative not only tackles SDG 13 on climate action and SDG 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure but also touches SDG 7 on clean energy and SDG 11 on sustainable cities. Meanwhile under Our Community, social contribution maximises the positive contribution to the local and national economies, targeting SDG 10 on reduced inequalities and SDG 11 sustainable cities and communities. However, it also reaches SDG 4 on quality education and SDG 8 on decent job and economic growth.
Davide Stronati, Mott MacDonald’s global sustainability leader, said: “We wanted to create a transparent, up-to-date method of reporting on our sustainability practices. What makes this different is that it shows people what we are doing in making both our business and wider society more sustainable. We can update performance data
online as we receive it, rather than having a yearly static report. Sustainability is an important part of our business and we wanted people to be able to easily see how we are transforming our business in an integrated way.”
