For 50 years Mott MacDonald has been contributing vast skills and experience to projects across the United Arab Emirates – and winning recognition for our work.
We have worked on many large-scale and iconic projects including Um Al Nar power and desalination plants, Masdar City, phase one of Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Golf Estates, district cooling on Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jumeirah Monorail, the Emirates Float Glass Plant and Abu Dhabi’s Surface Transport Master Plan to name a few.
We continue to work on several large scale projects in the UAE including the provision of contract administration and siteoverview services on one of the world’s largest underground pumping stations, part of the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP) in Abu Dhabi.
We have also been appointed by the Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) to provide construction supervision services for the infrastructure of Lot 3 at South Shamkha – a mega housing development 50km from the city of Abu Dhabi. Our work includes supervision of 80km of road works, a 110km wastewater system and 90km of potable water networks, a power distribution system – including both primary and secondary substations – a storm water drainage network and provision for a telecommunications network.

Mott MacDonald is project management consultant on mega projects like Takreer’s Ruwais Refinery Expansion, the 7 year North East Bab Phase III development project and ADMA-OPCOS’s Lower Zakum 100 MBD programme for which it won the Offshore Project of the Year at the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards in 2012.
Another key appointment was as engineer to Sharjah Pipeline Company (a BP JV Company) for a jet fuel storage facility in the Hamriyah Free Zone and a 41km pipeline linking the new development to Sharjah International Airport. The US$13 million project provided infrastructure to support the Emirate of Sharjah’s aviation industry. More recently we have successfully commissioned a Class III Petroleum storage terminal facility in Fujairah for Gulf Petrochem. The US$110 million project, for which we provided engineering and PMC services, was the UAE National Winner at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2013.
We were project manager for the 81km Ruwais Bypass, a key part in the Gulf road network. We’re also providing operational safety support and designing all bridges and road diversions as well as the diversion of overhead power lines on the first rail project in the UAE, Etihad Rail Phase 1.
In Dubai we’re working with Dubai Municipality to develop a strategic integrated waste management master plan to the outlook period 2030. One of the key aims of the master plan is to achieve 70% recycling by 2025. Source segregation will be a key driver to achieve this ambitious target which will put Dubai at the forefront of sustainable waste management.
