Buildings
We are pushing forward the performance of buildings for all purposes from civic and commercial and retail through to transport, education and sports.
In Belfast, we contributed to the transformation of shipbuilding yards at Titanic Quarter into one of the world’s largest urban-waterfront regeneration projects.
We helped deliver award-winning sustainable buildings. The Dogs Trust rehoming centre and the Houghton-le-Spring Primary Care Centre attained the highest sustainability rating – Outstanding – under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) with our input. For The Laboratory at Dulwich College, we designed a thermally active system connected to borehole cooling to maintain a comfortable temperature within 18 labs that is four times more energy efficient than conventional air conditioning. It enabled the facility to achieve an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating.
Clients are seeking to improve the performance of existing assets. We completed two ‘green retrofit’ projects for the government, 2 St Pauls Place in Sheffield and the Capital in Liverpool, whose performance surpasses that of all but the most advanced new build commercial developments.
In the sports arena, we designed a venue at the London 2012 Olympics, Wembley National Stadium, the home of Rugby Football Union, Twickenham, and Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Other projects include Leeds Arena, Casement Park in Belfast and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow.
Transport
We were at the heart of the modernisation programme at Heathrow Airport. As well as working on the UK’s largest ever airside project – the £490M Heathrow Terminal 2B – we designed, managed and integrated 28 IT systems for the entire £2.5B Terminal 2 complex.
We're playing leading roles on principal projects – High Speed Two, Crossrail, East London Line, London Underground station upgrades, Thameslink upgrade and the Northern Hub project. We’ve worked on almost all tram schemes in UK towns and cities.
We developed a reporting tool for Highways England to assess the UK’s programme of all-lane running on major roads. We developed an alternate design for the £81M link road between the M18 motorway and Doncaster’s Robin Hood Airport. Working together, lean efficiencies, performance optimisation and waste reduction has been achieved during the construction, management and operation of highways.
Water
We work with water and wastewater service providers on all elements of business planning, technical and project management, feasibility, investigation and design and construction providing an integrated, efficient service.
We’ve been working with the UK's largest water and wastewater services provider for over 20 years. We’ve helped deliver improvements across 102 water treatment works, 265 reservoirs, 350 sewage works, 108,000km of sewer and 2,818 pumping stations. Projects include a vast interceptor, storage and transfer tunnel to halt continued sewer overflows, and enhanced sludge digestion aimed at making sewage treatment more sustainable.
Our joint venture with contractor JN Bentley, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), was created to deliver long term programmes of work. Since its establishment in 1999, MMB has experienced major success, working on world-changing projects and winning multiple awards for quality and innovation. MMB works on many schemes such as developing standardised precast components for service reservoirs and the construction of a sludge processing facility with access roads and canal and river crossings.
Energy
We've worked with National Grid on electricity substation alliances, as well as maintaining and upgrading the gas transmission network. For the National Grid London power tunnels we carried out feasibility design and monitored design and construction of 32km of tunnels, 14 shafts and two major substations, plus installation of 64km of high voltage cable. Our work on electricity transmission includes high voltage connectors with northern Europe and Ireland.
We straddle the entire nuclear power lifecycle. We’re part of the Axoim alliance with a 15-year contract to provide design services to Sellafield Limited. To accelerate development of wave and tidal energy projects off the coast of Scotland, we provided commercial, procurement, risk and project management services to the UK Crown Estate.
Education
Over the course of 13 years managing education services in the London Borough of Islington the number of children achieving GCSE grade A* to C rose from 26.5% to 74%. We are now managing education services for Slough Borough Council.
Health
Our teams are working with National Health Service Trusts and hospitals to improve operational efficiencies, realise savings, uphold workforce standards and preserve frontline services – to achieve better patient outcomes.
We led all commercial and contractual negotiations on behalf of NHS Wales Informatics Service for a new picture archiving and communications solution PACS, a service that allows digital clinical images to be shared across NHS Wales. The solution saved £16M, a 38% reduction in spend.
