This year marks the 15th anniversary of Glasshouse International Centre for Music, the world-class music centre on the south bank of the River Tyne

The building was designed from the ground up with acoustics in mind, inspired by some of the world’s greatest concert venues

3D modelling was used extensively - far before BIM was standard practice

The three halls were designed as their own distinct structures, so no sound flows between them

And the main hall’s ceiling panels all move, to shape the room’s acoustics

The result is an award-winning venue, which has played a key role in the cultural regeneration of the region

The centre is a major educational resource, housing a music school and teaching facilities

With 30,000 children and 20,000 adults in its Creative Learning Programme

The building lies between the Tyne Bridge and Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the perfect juxtaposition between Gateshead’s storied past and its bright future
