Plastic waste is now a common sight throughout our environment. It is estimated that there are 5tr pieces of plastic floating out seas and oceans, weighing up to 269,000t - about the same as 1345 adult blue whales, and 500 times the number of stars in the galaxy.
For more than 50 years, our waste management team of planners, engineers and environmental scientists has helped our clients develop business opportunities while protecting communities and the natural environment. They continue to help develop waste management strategies that comply with international and local standards.
We recognise the need to incorporate an understanding of ecosystems into any solution, and have the full range of ecology and biodiversity expertise. Our specialists have extensive practical experience of balancing ecological and environmental needs to deliver projects around the world, integrating innovative solutions and technology for our client’s needs.
Ultimately, sustainability sits at the heart of our approach and helps us ensure that the outcomes of projects are always positive, adding value for our clients and the communities they work in. Our vision is to be a leading global partner in advancing sustained economic, social and environmental wellbeing. We put the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at the heart of our business.
We are also focusing on solutions to reduce plastic waste. We have:
- included a specific statement on plastics in our environment policy
- established a Plastics Working Group with Board-level sponsorship
- tasked our central procurement team to work suppliers to find alternatives to plastic products
- collaborated on research projects
- integrated plastic-reduction measures into all UK Office environment plans, alongside other waste reduction commitments
- joined the UK Government’s Research and Innovation Hub, bringing together scientific and technical expertise to tackle the issue
- advised industry
- organised conferences for stakeholders to showcase products and solutions
We will continue to work with our clients, staff and supply chain to invest in solutions to stem the flow of plastics into the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
