Our building consultancy is highly skilled in new build high rise developments and complex residential tower refurbishments – we’ve been called in to devise solutions for adding extra floors to existing structures for example, an immense design challenge.

Macau City of Dreams
We provided geotechnical, civil and structural design services for this integrated entertainment resort and building services design for its two five star hotels. The project was a fast-track development so designs incorporated simple steel connections and standardised steel sections allowing for fast construction. Transfer beams and trusses were incorporated in areas such as ballrooms to provide large column-free spaces.
We provided civil, structural, conservation and transport engineering design services for the refurbishment and extension of an 18th century lodge into the new five star resort in Ireland. Working closely with the client from an early stage enabled us to become familiar with the existing structures and the environmental and historic constraints so that the design stayed sympathetic to the lodge, 11th century castle and historic landscape.
We specified specialist façade systems for the elegant 40-storey hotel which were under budget and exceeded performance requirements. We also ensured the product brought about by contractors was delivered with quality assurance and within time constraints.
We used building information modelling (BIM) to avoid clashes between the buildings’ raked steel screw pile foundations, designed to cope with high seismic loads, and a stormwater channel. Above ground, BIM has been used to coordinate and visualise the grout-filled steel columns, structural steel beams, reinforced concrete shear walls and precast concrete floors. Coordinated models contributed to 20% design time savings.
