Our services cover accessibility, passenger ergonomics and operator efficiency, and the whole life performance of single-use and multimodal stations, terminals and interchanges, and maintenance depots.
We’ve helped clients worldwide deliver many vital transport links and buildings. Our multidisciplinary expertise in all areas of transport helps inform building design. And our industry-leading tools enable rigorous comparison of different design options. Whatever the project type or size, our experienced teams provide world-class quality, combining architectural and engineering excellence with user needs and higher enjoyment.
Because transport buildings involve the movement of large groups of people in potentially high risk areas, we help clients ensure that they are safe in operation, robust, and user-friendly. Sustainability is fundamental: we work with clients at the earliest stages to improve the whole life financial, environmental, and social performance.
Delhi International Airport
We enabled delivery in only 50 months of one of the world’s largest new-build airport projects, boasting Asia’s longest runway. We sourced all the necessary forecasting, planning, and design expertise in-house and drew on our company’s global resources. The airport opened in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Our 30-year master plan anticipates Delhi International Airport’s needs to 2036.
Durban Harbour
At Africa’s busiest container port we helped engineer a new utilities tunnel under the harbor entrance in advance of widening and deepening work. The project included the development of a container terminal, upgrades to existing container facilities, and the refurbishment and deepening of 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) of quay wall. We provided planning and development, site investigation, design, construction supervision, and project management services.
North Satellite Concourse
Mott MacDonald was lead consultant for the North Satellite Concourse and temporary stands upgrade project at Hong Kong International Airport. Design of this Code C aircraft facility was particularly challenging, as it is located in a busy operational environment and constrained within an existing set of Code E and C parking stands. Our role involved design, management, and all civil, structural, geotechnical, building services, and facade engineering. Construction was carried out without disrupting airport operations.
