Nick Dempsey

Helping the water market navigate climate change, infrastructure challenges and rapid transformation has been a defining focus of Nick Dempsey’s career. With more than 25 years of experience across New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and the Pacific, he brings a combination of technical expertise, sector leadership and governance experience that has influenced both project delivery and industry policy.

Nick works with clients and communities to deliver sustainable, future-focused water solutions that balance environmental, social and economic outcomes. As a long-standing contributor to Water New Zealand, he recently served as chair of the Climate Change Special Interest Group (CCSIG), where he led the development of nationally recognised guidance on carbon accounting for wastewater treatment and supported sector-wide emissions reduction initiatives. He is also a regular presenter at Water New Zealand conferences and has authored technical publications on decarbonisation, digital twins and infrastructure carbon management. Since 2017, Nick has also served as a trustee of the Ronald Hicks Memorial Trust, supporting the administration of its prestigious awards programme and overseeing the Trust's financial management.

Combining technical excellence, strategic thinking and practical governance experience, Nick is passionate about strengthening the long-term resilience and sustainability of Aotearoa’s water services and contributing to the future direction of the sector.
