We are seeking a skilled and motivated civil or utilities engineer with strong, demonstrable experience in rail and transit projects. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality civil and utility design solutions, providing technical oversight, and supporting multidisciplinary teams throughout all phases of project development and delivery. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of civil infrastructure design, including utilities, drainage, roadways, grading, and corridor integration, with a strong understanding of how civil works interface with rail systems, structures, and adjacent disciplines. Proven experience coordinating complex interfaces between civil, systems, and structural elements is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to contribute effectively within large, multidisciplinary design environments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical oversight and quality review of civil and utility engineering deliverables across all project phases, and apply a strong understanding of applicable codes, technical standards, design guidelines, and project-specific criteria.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design integration, resolve design conflicts, and ensure alignment between disciplines.
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to clarify requirements, address technical issues, and maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Deliver technical support in client-facing and project environments and an ability to work collaboratively within project teams.
  • Support design development and production of high-quality technical documentation including reports and memos and perform and support QA/QC processes for trackwork and system deliverables.
  • Engage with and contribute to professional industry organizations and actively participate in and support Mott MacDonald’s Rail Practice initiatives.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 5+years demonstrable experience in rail and transit projects, and a working knowledge of industry design standards and best practices.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or related transportation field from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of civil infrastructure and utility systems within rail and transit environments, including coordination of interfaces between utilities, civil works, rail systems, structures, and adjacent disciplines.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification obtained or actively pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

 

The expected salary for this position is $91,000 - $111,000.
