Mott MacDonald, an engineering consultant industry leader, is seeking a Construction Inspector reporting to our Charleston, WV office. This professional will be responsible for providing construction oversight, including documentation of daily activities and coordination with project engineers and contractors for local projects.  This assignment could include inspection throughout WV as needed.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Observing construction to identify and document work is performed in accordance with approved contract documents, plans and specifications.
  • Performing full-time observation of construction activities and supporting documentation processes.
  • Preparing detailed electronic Daily Reports which will record the daily activities and be submitted to the client for project completion.
  • Providing site support for on-site engineering subcontractors.
  • Acting responsibly, adhering to all Mott MacDonald and client safety protocols, and maintaining an awareness of actions by others that could be considered unsafe.
  • Recognizing and documenting any possible project issues.
  • Monitoring all on-site activities and representing Mott MacDonald and the client professionally and competently.
  • Acting as a liaison with customers and the public on projects in a professional manner with the utmost quality
  • Acquiring temporary construction easements (TCE) and rights of way (ROW) as directed.
  • Operation of GPS equipment for project data capture
  • Operation of a motor vehicle for business purposes.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.

 

Candidate Specifications:

We invite applications from candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Understanding of contract documents, plans and specifications and ability to effectively communicate with project construction personnel and contractors.
  • Comprehension of shop drawings, material specifications, mechanical operations, basic construction and process knowledge, and the ability to ask for assistance when needed.
  • Knowledge of construction products, materials, and equipment, as well as construction inspection and management practices and techniques, and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of or experience working with GPS and data collection devices and software.
  • Good organizational skills, self-motivation, and a focus on integrity and safety.
  • H.S. Diploma and interest in experience with inspection on large, multi-disciplined projects.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Travel to job sites in the region may be required.
