About the business unit  
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

 

 

Overview of the role

We're looking for an Electrical Building Services Engineer to join our growing Energy Networks team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a range of transmission and distribution projects, supporting the delivery of building services designs for substations, converter stations and other energy infrastructure projects. You will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams, gaining experience across a variety of projects while contributing to the delivery of sustainable and technically robust engineering solutions.

 

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Support the delivery of building services engineering designs for energy infrastructure and industrial facilities
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, specifications and technical documentation under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Assist in the development of design drawings, layouts and schematics covering HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical building services and water services
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines including civil, structural, protection and control, and primary plant teams
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable and energy-efficient building services solutions
  • Support project teams in delivering work to agreed quality, programme and budget requirements
  • Assist with site visits, surveys and inspections where required
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and company procedures
  • Participate in client and internal project meetings
  • Support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team

 

 

Candidate specification

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering ,Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Relevant postgraduate experience in building services design
  • Experience contributing to building services projects within infrastructure, industrial, utilities, energy, or commercial sectors
  • Understanding of HVAC, mechanical and electrical building services systems
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation, reports and engineering calculations
  • Familiarity with industry-standard design software and engineering tools
  • Understanding of relevant UK standards and regulations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Proactive approach to learning and problem solving

 

Desirable:

  • Working towards professional registration with CIBSE, IET, IMechE or another relevant institution
  • Experience supporting transmission and distribution, substations, renewable energy or industrial projects
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM processes
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Site experience including surveys and inspections
  • Awareness of sustainability and low-carbon design principles
