Your Opportunity 

 

Our Defence and Security Division team within our Australian business are looking for a Nuclear Project Manager to support the delivery of complex naval nuclear programme. You will be joining a diverse and passionate team with a proven track record delivering major projects across Australia. The Nuclear Project Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day delivery of projects across a range of sectors, working under the direction of a Project Principal. This role leads project planning, coordination and control activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring delivery to programme, cost, quality and safety requirements. It suits individuals with experience working in Design & Build and contractor-led environments, managing complex interfaces between design teams, contractors, clients and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of nuclear safety case activities, leading and coordinating a team of Safety Case Engineers
  • Oversee the production and maintenance of safety case documentation
  • Lead and review inputs to modification and design change submissions
  • Coordinate and assure delivery of safety assessments, including deterministic, probabilistic, functional safety and ALARP assessments
  • Provide leadership and oversight of hazard identification and analysis activities, including HAZOP, HAZAN and related studies
  • Manage technical interfaces with internal teams, contractors, and client stakeholders, ensuring alignment across safety case deliverables
  • Act as a key interface with regulators, supporting regulatory submissions and responses
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety legislation, regulations and relevant policies
  • Oversee engineering substantiation and safety justification activities across projects
  • Identify, manage and escalate risks and issues associated with safety case delivery
  • Support quality assurance, governance processes and technical reviews for safety case outputs
  • Promote a strong nuclear safety culture and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams

 

About You

 

  • Degree qualified in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline
  • Experience in the nuclear or defence industries (although applicants from other high-hazard industries will be considered)
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards
  • Ability to demonstrate successful delivery of nuclear safety deliverables and strategy on complex projects
  • Experience working in Design & Build and/or contractor-led delivery models
  • Working knowledge of collaborative forms of contract
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing interfaces
  • Strong project planning, scheduling and project control skills
  • Experience managing project risks, issues and change
  • Good communication skills, including reporting and stakeholder engagement
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations as required
