About the business unit  
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

 

 

Overview of the role

Mott MacDonald is expanding its energy business in Germany and is seeking a Principal Power system study Engineer to support the delivery of major transmission and distribution projects across Germany and Europe.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial professional who is energised by the challenge of building an engineering team from the ground up. You will play a key role in the design and delivery of protection, control and secondary systems for major transmission infrastructure projects across Germany and Europe.

 
As a Secondary Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing secondary designs for HV and EHV substations from concept through detailed design and construction support. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support complex transmission projects
 
Key responsibilities and duties include:
  • Deliver engineering solutions for secondary systems in HV and EHV substations
  • Develop protection, control and SCADA designs
  • Prepare protection philosophies, schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Develop interlocking and control system designs
  • Produce technical specifications and design documentation
  • Coordinate secondary interfaces with primary design and system operators
  • Liaise with clients, transmission operators and equipment suppliers
  • Participate in technical reviews and design assurance activities
  • Support testing, commissioning and energisation activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence within the team
 
 
Candidate specification
Essential:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience delivering secondary design for transmission substations
  • Knowledge of protection and control systems
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850, VDE, IEC and utility standards
  • Experience within transmission, renewable energy or utility infrastructure
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English
 
Desirable:
  • Experience with 110kV, 220kV and 380kV substations
  • Experience working with TSO or DSO clients
  • Chartership or equivalent professional accreditation
  • Experience supporting commissioning and protection testing activities
