About the business unit  
The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.  

 

 

Overview of the role

We're looking for a talented Senior Civil Engineer to join our growing Buildings team, helping deliver innovative and sustainable solutions across some of the UK's most exciting building and infrastructure projects.Our team delivers a diverse portfolio of building and infrastructure projects, across the UK and Europe. You'll contribute to projects ranging from complex healthcare estates and secure defence infrastructure through to major commercial developments, sports and entertainment venues, and large-scale regeneration schemes.
 
This is an opportunity to lead the delivery of complex civil engineering solutions on some of the UK's most prestigious building and infrastructure projects, while influencing project outcomes, mentoring developing engineers and helping shape the future growth of our Buildings business. You will take ownership of project elements and contribute to delivering a high standard of work, while supporting a collaborative and positive team environment. You will also play a role in developing our Buildings portfolio through strong project delivery and participation in business development activities. You'll be joining a highly connected, national, multi-disciplinary team with the opportunity to collaborate with specialists across disciplines including structural engineering, building services, architecture, project management and sustainability. This breadth of expertise means you'll have the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while continuing to develop your own specialisms and interests.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of building-related civil engineering works, including site development, drainage (including SuDS), earthworks, utilities, and external works including car parks and access roads
  • Deliver projects or project elements in line with quality, programme, and financial requirements
  • Promote and ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures
  • Support on project management responsibilities for projects or defined work packages from bid stage through to completion
  • Support business development activities and client engagement
  • Play an important role in developing our future talent by coaching, mentoring and supporting graduates and early-career engineers.

 

 

Candidate specification

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with relevant experience
  • Experience in design of building-related civil engineering projects, including site development, drainage, utilities, and external works including car parks and access roads
  • Experience managing or coordinating project delivery, including programme, budget, and resources
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams, with a good understanding of relevant standards, local authority requirements, and engineering principles
  • Proficiency in one or more design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfoDrainage
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues and clients
  • Willingness to contribute to bid preparation and fee proposals, and supporting client relationships
