About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
Overview of the role
Our Liverpool Local Streets and Infrastructure team has a strong track record of delivering highways, active travel, public realm and infrastructure projects for local authorities, developers and contractors across the North-West and wider UK. We deliver collaborative, technically excellent and sustainable solutions that support communities, enable development and improve local transport networks.

You will combine technical delivery with project and task management responsibilities, working across feasibility, concept, detailed design and construction stages. You will contribute to the successful delivery of multidisciplinary local streets and infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with colleagues, clients, contractors and partner organisations. The role offers opportunities to broaden your technical capability, develop project and commercial management experience, support work winning and mentor junior colleagues.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- Managing the planning, design and delivery of highways and infrastructure tasks or projects to agreed quality, programme, budget and scope.
- Developing and coordinating designs for local roads, streets, active travel schemes, public realm, development infrastructure and associated civil engineering works.
- Applying relevant standards and guidance, including DMRB, the Specification for Highways Works, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, Sewerage Sector Guidance and local authority requirements.
- Delivering projects associated with Section 278 and Section 38 agreements and working with private developers, contractors and local authorities.
- Undertaking technical checks and supporting the approval of design deliverables.
- Applying health, safety and wellbeing requirements, including designer responsibilities and safe-by-design principles.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and communicating interfaces, risks, assumptions and design decisions clearly.
- Managing resources, preparing and monitoring programmes, tracking budgets and identifying change, risk and early warnings.
- Supporting the preparation of fee proposals, bids and technical submissions.
- Building effective relationships with clients and contributing to the development of repeat business.
- Using digital delivery processes and common data environments, including Autodesk Construction Cloud and ProjectWise where applicable.
- Mentoring and supporting the development of apprentices, graduates and junior engineers.
- Working collaboratively with UK and global delivery teams.
