Mott MacDonald and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water sign digital decarbonisation agreement

The global engineering, management and development consultancy Mott MacDonald will be supporting Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s (DCWW) ambitious decarbonisation goals.

DCWW, a company responsible for providing over three million people with high quality supply of water and wastewater services, has committed to reduce its total carbon emissions by 90% by 2030. To meet this goal, DCWW has partnered with Mott MacDonald to strengthen its carbon management approach, powered by digital innovation.

The collaboration will see Mott MacDonald’s PAS 2080-aligned digital decarbonisation solution, the Moata Carbon Portal, rolled out across DCWW’s capital projects, supply chain and reporting functionalities. In conjunction with advisory support from Mott MacDonald, DCWW will use the Moata Carbon Portal to advance their low-carbon design and regulatory reporting requirements.

The deployment of the Moata Carbon Portal demonstrates each organisation’s shared commitment to using innovation to meet the pressing global need to decarbonise. It also recognises the value of scaling carbon management across organisations and supply chains by providing decarbonisation solutions that are accessible, intuitive and quality assured. This will allow a wider range of users within the organisation to advance their carbon understanding and make informed decisions to decarbonise.

Arwel Jones, DCWW’s head of engineering performance, said, “As a company, our services can be regularly impacted by the effects of climate change such as extreme rainfall and prolonged dry weather, which has become more evident in recent years. So we’re proud to support Wales’ efforts to cut carbon and combat climate change. We’re looking forward to working together to reduce our carbon footprint and improve our resilience.”

David Orr, Mott MacDonald’s product lead for the Moata Carbon Portal, said, “This collaboration marks an exciting stage in our decarbonisation journey with DCWW. It’s fantastic to see an organisation take such an inclusive approach to support all employees and supply chain members to consider carbon in their work, to the benefit of communities across Wales.”
