The New Generation Gas Gathering (NG3) pipeline was developed to expand natural gas transportation capacity from the Haynesville Shale to Louisiana’s Gulf Coast, helping address regional bottlenecks and support growing LNG demand through a 250-mile, 2.3Bcf/d system designed to deliver lower-carbon natural gas.

Project

Delivering lower-carbon natural gas to Gulf Coast LNG markets

The 250-mile New Generation Gas Gathering (NG3) pipeline expanded natural gas transportation capacity in Louisiana. The project incorporated a carbon capture and sequestration component designed to remove and permanently store CO2 associated with the gas stream, making it a net-negative carbon pipeline.

Developed by Momentum Midstream, the system gathers natural gas from the Haynesville Shale and transports it to the Gillis delivery point in Beauregard Parish at a designed total capacity of 2.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), supporting growing Gulf Coast liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets.

Managing complex project delivery across Louisiana

As Momentum Midstream expanded its M6 System, it needed a trusted partner capable of managing the complex engineering, environmental, surveying, and construction support activities required to deliver a large-scale pipeline network across northwest Louisiana. The project involved coordinating multiple stakeholders, extensive right-of-way activities, permitting requirements, material procurement, and construction tracking across a geographically dispersed corridor.

Building on a successful partnership established through the Louisiana Energy Access Pipeline (LEAP) project, Momentum Midstream selected Mott MacDonald as prime consultant to support the delivery of NG3. Our team provided project management, capital expenditure and budget tracking, pipeline and facilities engineering, environmental permitting and surveys, preliminary surveying, horizontal directional drilling (HDD) design, drafting and mapping, right-of-way support, material procurement assistance, constructability reviews, and construction inspection services.

Integrating data to enhance project visibility

Effective delivery of the NG3 pipeline required visibility into thousands of project activities, materials, and construction records. To support informed decision-making, we developed a comprehensive data integration solution that consolidated information from inventory systems, procurement records, shipping and receiving logs, material condition assessments, capital expenditure systems, and field inspection tools.

Working closely with Momentum Midstream, vendors, and project stakeholders, our team conducted discovery workshops, evaluated existing workflows, established data quality standards, and implemented processes that improved consistency across multiple data sources. The integrated solution streamlined the management of procurement, logistics, construction progress, and project controls, providing stakeholders with reliable information throughout the project lifecycle.

Delivering new capacity

Entering service in late August 2025, the completed NG3 project has increased transportation capacity from the Haynesville Shale, helped alleviate regional infrastructure bottlenecks, and enabled more efficient delivery of natural gas to Gulf Coast LNG facilities and downstream markets.
