Great transit doesn't happen by accident. It takes planning, engineering, systems integration, and operational readiness all working together – from the first sketch to the first passenger. We work alongside our clients as long-term partners, because successful transit needs to work for the people operate it and those who rely on it every day.

Biography

Gary Farmer is Mott MacDonald's urban mobility market leader. With nearly 25 years at the firm, he has substantial experience across major transit projects in North America and internationally. His experience covers the full range of urban transit modes, including active travel, bus rapid transit, light rail, streetcar, urban gondola, and automated metro systems. Gary works across every project phase, from early planning and options assessment through design, while considering the long-term operations and maintenance needs that shape how a system performs over its life.

Gary began his career as a design engineer in the UK, where he contributed to the development of most of the country's tramway networks. Over the last 15 years in North America, he has supported Edmonton's Valley Line, Calgary's Green Line, and many TransLink projects, including the Burnaby Mountain Gondola and bus rapid transit (BRT) planning studies. Gary also supports our US business on a wide range of projects, including studies for LRT expansion in San Diego and Seattle and the Austin Light Rail program.
