Mott MacDonald is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern with 2–4 years of experience to join our growing New Orleans team. This position offers the opportunity to work on municipal and transportation infrastructure projects throughout Louisiana while developing experience across engineering design, construction administration, and construction engineering and inspection (CE&I).

 

The initial assignment will have a strong construction administration focus, providing both field and office engineering support for active municipal infrastructure construction. As project needs evolve, the engineer will also have opportunities to support design and CE&I assignments involving roadway, drainage, water, sewer, utilities, and other civil infrastructure improvements.

 

Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, the successful candidate will gain experience across the project lifecycle while developing toward professional licensure and increasing technical and project responsibilities within Mott MacDonald.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support municipal and transportation infrastructure projects from design through construction.
  • Prepare and review engineering plans, calculations, quantities, cost estimates, specifications, and other technical deliverables under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Support roadway, drainage, paving, water, sewer, utility, traffic control, and other civil infrastructure design activities.
  • Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, design information, and contract documents.
  • Provide field and office engineering support for construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, pay applications, change documentation, schedules, and project correspondence.
  • Review and track RFIs, submittals, action items, and other construction documentation.
  • Perform site visits, field investigations, and construction observations and document construction progress, field conditions, quantities, and items requiring follow-up.
  • Coordinate with Resident Inspectors and project staff to obtain field records, photographs, quantities, testing documentation, and other information needed to support construction administration.
  • Assist with review of contractor quantities and supporting documentation for progress payments.
  • Support preparation and documentation of field changes, change requests, cost estimates, and related construction documentation.
  • Participate in project, client, preconstruction, progress, and coordination meetings and assist with meeting documentation and follow-up.
  • Assist with reviewing and tracking construction schedules and progress.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, inspectors, testing laboratories, utility agencies, and other project stakeholders under the direction of senior project staff.
  • Participate in construction inspection and CE&I assignments as project needs require.

 

We are looking for an engineer who is interested in developing a broad civil engineering background and gaining experience in both the field and office.

We invite applications from candidates with the followign experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Current Engineer Intern (EI) certification in the State of Louisiana.
  • 2–4 years of civil engineering experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to work in both field and office environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, field personnel, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Preferred
    • Previous CE&I experience with LADOTD or construction administration experience supporting City of New Orleans or Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans projects.
    • Experience with roadway, drainage, water, sewer, utility, paving, or other municipal infrastructure projects.
    • Working knowledge of or exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, or similar civil engineering design software. Advanced proficiency is not required.
    • Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management and document control software.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Oracle Primavera P6, or similar scheduling software.
    • Experience with or exposure to RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, pay applications, change documentation, construction schedules, or other construction administration activities.
