Title: Engineer IV - Tunnels
Location: 10 South LaSalle Street, Chicago, IL 60603
Duties: Responsible for coordinating and executing geo-structural design of underground excavations, including tunnels and shafts, for major infrastructure projects. Perform geo-structural design for underground excavations including: evaluating geotechnical field and laboratory data; estimating soil and rock geotechnical design parameters; conducting engineering calculations and numerical modeling analyses; and designing temporary and permanent support systems for tunnels and shafts. Support the development of: geotechnical exploration programs; construction drawings; design reports and technical memoranda; and technical specifications for underground construction. Review contractor shop drawings, submittals, and work plans during construction. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive underground engineering solutions. Partial telecommuting permitted; employees will be required to report to office at least 3 days per week. 20% domestic travel required for technical workshops and general project support.
Requirements: Requires a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field plus two (2) years of Experience as a Tunnel Engineer or a related occupation involving design of underground excavations.
Experience may be gained concurrently and must include two (2) years in each of the following:
Alternatively, will accept a Bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of experience.
Applicants must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois.
Salary: $122,845/year.
