Mott MacDonald is looking to strengthen its technical leadership within our Bridge and Civil Structures team. In this key role, you will provide hands-on technical leadership during the delivery of bridge and civil structures projects across Canada and more broadly across North America as opportunities are presented. The role is primarily focused on technical execution, quality of project delivery, contribution to winning new work, and coaching others to build technical capability. Management and resource responsibilities form a secondary part of the role, supporting delivery excellence and sustainable team growth.
As a Principal Project Engineer / Technical Lead your primary responsibilities would include:
Leading the technical delivery of bridge and civil structure projects from concept through construction, with accountability for technical approach, design quality, constructability, and delivery outcomes.
Serving as a senior technical authority on structural systems, materials, design methodologies, utilizing applicable standards and other relevant codes.
Overseeing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, coordination, and alignment with client expectations.
Contributing to QA/QC processes, peer reviews, interdisciplinary reviews, and design validation activities to uphold technical excellence and reduce delivery risk.
Coordinating with other specialists including geotechnical, transportation, environmental, and other technical disciplines to integrate bridge and civil structures solutions into broader infrastructure projects.
Leading technical workshops, design reviews, value engineering discussions, and client presentations to communicate complex concepts clearly and secure stakeholder confidence.
Supporting the winning of new work by contributing to technical strategy, delivery methodology, key risks and opportunities to shape pursuits and strengthen client relationships, and position Mott MacDonald’s technical capability in the market.
Coaching, mentoring, and developing junior and intermediate engineers through project delivery, technical review, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing.
Building a culture of technical rigor, collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and practical problem solving across the Bridge and Civil Structures team.

The candidate must possess the following experience:
A strong academic background, with a bachelor’s level degree in Structural Engineering (a master’s degree would be considered an asset)
20+ years of relevant industry / project experience
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status with EGBC (or readily attainable)
Experience providing technical leadership during project delivery, including oversight, review, coordination, and decision-making on complex bridge or civil structures assignments.
Experience supporting successful pursuits, proposals, client discussions, or technical inputs that contribute to winning new work.
Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams, explain technical issues clearly, and coach junior and intermediate staff.
Strong technical skills associated with the design of Bridges and underground structures.
Passion for the application of digital tools and technology to develop innovative design solutions.
Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables.
Gained project management awareness and collaborative leadership capability, with management responsibilities viewed as secondary to technical execution, pursuit support, and coaching others.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
The expected salary range for this position is from $200,000 - $250,000.
