About the business unit  

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

 

 

Overview of the role:

Due to a recent major win, continued growth and increasing demand in OGH, a Principal Civil & Structural Engineering role is urgently required to:

 

  • Undertake and manage the day to day operations in respect of the following key areas:
  • Civil and Structural design and specification in the areas of earthworks, ground analysis / investigation, pipework / equipment supports, site roadways, drainage, reinforced concrete foundations / bases for buildings and structural steel analysis.
  • Pipeline design including settlement and stability calculations.
  • Approval In Principle (AIP) generation.
  • Production, review and approval of civil / structural reports, drawings and calculations.
  • Coordinate the delivery of the project tasks and deliverables within tight deadlines and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Instruct C&S CAD designers and engineers with regards to C&S design.
  • Work closely with and provide professional advice on C&S matters to relevant client personnel.
  • Attend design meetings and site visits.
  • Provide technical support for bid preparations.
  • Undertake thorough and conscientious checking of own and others work.
  • Identify business development opportunities with both internal and external clients and raise the profile of the business both internally and externally.
  • Undertake own continuing professional development and support the development of others.
  • Operate in accordance with the corporate health and safety, environment and quality standards.
  • Work may require travel in the UK or abroad to offices and / or sites.

 

This role must be based in UK (preferably Leicester) to support delivery of our OGH projects and engagement with client and stakeholders. 

 

Acting as Principal C&S lead, you will support the delivery of projects, ensure they are appropriately resourced, delivered on time and within budget, to meet the client’s requirements, while reducing technical and commercial risks.

Candidate Specifications:

 

We are looking for a motivated and collaborative person with a genuine passion for technical excellence and client outcomes, with the following attributes:

 

Essential 

  • A degree in a Civil Engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Membership of a professional institution.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Eurocodes and international design codes, standards and specifications.
  • UK Utilities experience
  • Proven track record in coordinating and delivering project activities.
  • Ability to work on own initiative on technical and business matters and manage their own time and that and others.
  • Ability to mentor, support and develop junior staff.

 

Desirable

  • UK Gas Industry experience
  • Cadent / National Gas G17/35 Civil Appraiser or Approver
  • Strong IT skills (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to produce and high-quality technical reports
  • Experience of participating in meetings and client presentations
