About the role
The Rail Systems Inspector will be responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and ensuring compliance of all rail-related systems and interfaces. The role focuses on safeguarding the integrity, safety, and uninterrupted operation of existing metro systems while ensuring that all construction activities meet RTA standards and rail system requirements.
Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, below:
Inspection & Compliance
- Conduct regular inspections of rail system interfaces affected by construction activities.
- Ensure compliance with RTA standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
- Monitor contractor activities near operational rail infrastructure to ensure safe working practices.
Rail Systems Protection
- Safeguard existing rail systems, including:
- Signalling and control systems
- Communication systems
- Power supply systems (traction and auxiliary)
- Verify implementation of protective measures during demolition and construction.
Construction Interface Management
- Review method statements, risk assessments, and work permits related to rail system proximity.
- Ensure proper coordination between civil, MEP, and rail system contractors.
- Monitor works affecting track, platform areas, and station operational zones.
Safety & Operational Assurance
- Ensure that construction activities do not disrupt ongoing metro operations.
- Enforce safety protocols within operational railway environments.
- Identify potential risks and escalate issues affecting safety or service continuity.
Testing & Commissioning Support
- Participate in inspection and validation during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Witness and verify system integration tests where new construction interfaces with existing systems.
- Ensure all rail-related installations meet operational readiness requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed inspection reports, site observations, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Track rectification actions and follow up on compliance closures.
- Provide regular updates to project management and RTA stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement and digital ways of working, sharing knowledge and lessons learned.

Candidate specifications:
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Railway Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience
- Significant experience in rail/metro systems inspection or supervision.
- Experience working in operational metro or railway environments is essential.
- Prior experience on infrastructure or station upgrade/construction projects preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of metro rail systems including signalling, telecommunications, and power systems.
- Familiarity with rail safety standards and operational protocols.
- Ability to review construction drawings, method statements, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of inspection processes, QA/QC procedures, and safety practices.
Soft Skills
- Strong observation and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to work in high-risk, live operational environments with strict compliance requirements.
