Brilliant people trusted to do brilliant things
Mott MacDonald is a vibrant and forward-thinking engineering, management, and development consultancy. Working together as a global team we plan, design, deliver and maintain the transport, energy, water, buildings, and wider infrastructure that is integral to people’s daily lives. We value excellence in every dimension of our business and continuously seek opportunities to improve what we do and how we do it.
We employ brilliant people who combine their diverse skills and experiences to achieve brilliant things. Whether you want to specialise or broaden your experience, you'll be supported by global specialists eager to share their expertise. With numerous opportunities to learn and grow, the possibilities are as diverse as our people. Working as a connected global team, we deliver impactful projects that shape the future.
We’re looking for a Digital Projects Lead to drive the strategic enablement and hands-on delivery of digital systems, automated workflows, and modern ways of working into key delivery programmes and projects across the Asia-Pacific Region, with a primary focus on Australia.
What does being the Digital Projects Lead at Mott MacDonald look like?
As the Digital Projects Lead you sit at the critical intersection where complex program delivery meets digital innovation. Positioned as a key strategic enabler, you own the digital blueprint for our highest-profile engagements across the Defence and Infrastructure sectors. Rather than operating purely at a theoretical level, you actively bridge the gap between high-level strategy and hands-on execution. You take full ownership of translating complex Project, Program, and Commercial Management requirements into pragmatic, scalable digital systems, automated workflows, and modern ways of working that directly improve delivery performance and commercial outcomes.
You are equally comfortable discussing governance, controls, commercial performance, risk, schedule and delivery outcomes with Programme Directors as you are designing digital architectures, integrated data environments and automated workflows with technical specialists.
As the Digital Projects Lead, you bridge programme delivery and digital innovation, partnering with senior clients, delivery teams and digital specialists to turn complex project, programme and commercial management challenges into practical digital solutions. You own the end-to-end digital ecosystem, shaping and deploying trusted systems, workflows and insights that improve programme performance, strengthen decision-making and deliver measurable client value. Every solution you deliver is secure, scalable, user-focused and aligned to successful project outcomes.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Strategic Digital Solution Ownership: Define and own the overarching digital solution approach for major programs of work, specifically targeting Project, Program, and Commercial Management (PPCM) systems and workflows.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Lead strategic client engagements across Australia and the broader APAC region, helping clients navigate digital transformation in complex Infrastructure and Defence environments.
Cross-Functional Orchestration: Serve as the primary connector between core business delivery teams, client PMO structures, and centralised digital services to ensure technical outputs align with operational delivery realities.
Hands-On Delivery & Technical Guidance: Oversee the end-to-end development, testing, and deployment of digital tools, data integration pipelines, and automated reporting mechanics.
Governance, Quality & Security Assurance: Ensure all digital solutions conform to rigorous standards of cybersecurity, data governance, system maintainability, and client compliance requirements.
Change Leadership & Ways of Working: Drive sustainable digital adoption across project teams by embedding best-practice digital workflows, establishing user training frameworks, and measuring ongoing business impact.
What we are looking for:
Must Haves:
Deep Project, Program and Commercial Management & Program Delivery Knowledge: 10+ years of background in project, program, or commercial management within the Infrastructure or Defence sectors, with a thorough understanding of project controls, commercial governance, and delivery lifecycles.
Proven Track Record in Digital Enablement: Demonstrated experience designing, configuring, or delivering digital systems, workflow automations, and data solutions for large-scale capital works programs.
Client Engagement Skills: Exceptional stakeholder management capabilities with a proven ability to influence client decision-makers and lead multidisciplinary teams across the APAC region.
End-to-End Delivery Leadership: Hands-on experience taking a digital capability or solution from initial concept and client co-design through development, deployment, and long-term business-as-usual adoption.
Commercial Acumen & Value Focus: Strong capability to connect digital initiatives directly to commercial outcomes, efficiency gains, and risk mitigation.
Looked upon favourably:
Defence & Security Environment Experience: Exposure to Defence procurement frameworks, secure data handling protocols (e.g., DISP compliance, security clearance readiness), or major Defence capital infrastructure programs.
Project, Program and Commercial Management & Data Ecosystem Exposure: Familiarity with modern digital delivery stacks (e.g., Azure, Primavera P6, CostX, ISO 19650 compliant Common Data Environments, geospatial/BIM integrations).
Consulting & Productisation Background: Experience within a professional services or advisory environment, particularly around framing digital offerings, value-based pricing, or packaged digital services.
Technical expertise: Practical understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) including requirements scoping, iterative delivery, QA/testing, and release management.
