About the business unit   

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.   

 

 

Overview of the role

Mott MacDonald is a global, employee-owned consultancy delivering engineering, management and development services worldwide. Our Energy, Environment and Social team works on some of the most complex infrastructure projects internationally.

 

We are seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant to be based in France with a strong focus on studies in line with International Financial Institution (IFI) requirements and some experience in environmental services supporting projects within France.

 

Key responsibilities include leading and coordinating DDs, monitoring projects, ESMS and ESIAs, engaging with clients, lenders and stakeholders and contributing to project management, budgets and programmes. The role will involve some travel and close collaboration with environmental and social subject matter specialists and engineers.

 

 

Candidate Specifications:

Essential:

  • Fluent in English and French
  • Degree qualified in an environmental subject
  • Extensive experienced in the coordination and delivery of environmental work by multi-disciplinary teams. Including ESIA, DD, monitoring and ESMS for major infrastructure energy projects
  • A thorough knowledge and experience of applying environmental safeguards of international finance institutions such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Investment Bank, among others, to energy projects;
  • Ability to undertake international travel
  • Extensive experience in developing client relationships and delivering proposals for new work
  • Extensive in leading and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience of winning and delivering environmental services within France 

 

Desirable:

  • Masters qualified in an environmental subject
  • Fluent in another language
  • A competent standard in an environmental specialism and a broader awareness of other environmental or social disciplines
  • Experience of options appraisals and iterative design processes 
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of major infrastructure projects (such as energy generation technologies)
  • Line management experience
  • Health and safety experience or qualification
