About the business unit 

Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors.

We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.

APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to €20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

Environment & water 

Our multidisciplinary experts help water, wastewater, and government organisations find sustainable, cost-effective solutions to the challenges of climate change, net-zero, water scarcity and environmental protection.

We work with around half of Ireland and UK’s regulated water and wastewater companies, and our work stretches across the entire project lifecycle - from pre-contract cost estimating and benchmarking, to post-contract quantity surveying and commercial assurance.

For project and programme management, we deliver capital projects on behalf of our clients, both internal and external that range from several hundred thousand euros in value to major projects and programmes worth over €0.5bn.

Overview of the role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and support the commercial management of a major wastewater infrastructure scheme being developed by Uisce Éireann to meet the growing demand for sewage treatment in the Greater Dublin Area. It involves the construction of a new regional wastewater treatment plant at Clonshaugh in North Dublin, along with supporting infrastructure such as a 14 km underground orbital sewer, a pumping station, and an outfall pipeline that will discharge treated water safely to the Irish Sea. Designed to serve a population equivalent of around 500,000 people, the project aims to relieve pressure on existing facilities such as the Ringsend plant, which are already operating near capacity.

As part of the commercial management team, you will work closely with the wider project commercial and contract administration functions. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to collaborative working with client teams to deliver this complex project on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards, while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

You will help drive innovation in service delivery and provide advice to both the team and the integrated client organisation. You will also support the successful delivery of project elements and work packages, assisting in identifying and monitoring project risks and opportunities, managing stakeholders by taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests, and ensuring effective project governance.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

• Commercial management of project, project packages or multiple projects
• Budget management including month end reporting (actuals, monthly variances, accruals and annual variances)
• Cost management in accordance with the clients NEC contract particularly the Schedule of Cost Components as amended
• Assessment of compensation events
• Assessment of monthly payment applications
• Cost reporting and forecasting
• Risk management and reporting
• Dispute resolution / avoidance
• Offering commercial strategy advice
• Review and recommendation of subcontractor acceptance
• Commercial audits
• Mentoring of junior members of team

Candidate specification

Essential:

• Quantity Surveying degree or other commercially related discipline
• Experience in administration of contracts, ideally NEC
• Ability to operate both autonomously and as a part of a larger team
• Excellent IT Skills – Word/Excel/PowerPoint
• Strong communication skills including writing reports and presenting
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, stakeholders, colleagues and the supply chain
• Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to work

Desirable:

• Chartered MRICS (or equivalent) or working towards chartered status and a commitment to Continuing Professional Development
• Experience in the water, environment and regulated industries
• Cost planning skills and experience of delivering ideally within a cost consultancy / multi-disciplinary environment
• Working knowledge of contract administration, cost estimates and management of NEC contracts
