Mott MacDonald is currently involved in several major infrastructure projects in the rail and transit realms. We are currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced individual to complement our team and assist with infrastructure assignments for public and private-sector clients. This role may also include direct embedment with our client. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the design of rail infrastructure, including track and alignment, under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Assist in preparing calculations, technical documentation, engineering drawings, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to support coordinated, high-quality design deliverables
  • Review design documents for consistency and coordination with supervision
  • Help coordinate with stakeholders, including railroads, municipalities, and other entities, with guidance from senior team members
  • Participate in verbal and written communication with clients, contractors, and internal teams
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and clients
  • Learn and apply technical software and design workflows to support project delivery
  • Contribute to proposal preparation and supporting materials as needed
  • Perform assigned design tasks with increasing independence while seeking guidance when appropriate 

 

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related technical field from an accredited university
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in civil engineering design (rail, trackwork, or roadway design exposure preferred)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or working toward obtaining licensure
  • Familiarity with Bentley design software (OpenRail, OpenRoads, or similar) is a plus
  • Basic understanding of rail alignment and/or transportation design concepts preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including organization and attention to detail 
  • Proactive self-starter who’s also flexible and able to adapt and learn
  • Confident and positive attitude
  • Desire and flexibility to travel across the state a plus
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Based on project needs, random drug testing may be required
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for this position
