Global engineering, management and development consultancy Mott MacDonald is continuing its rapid growth of its Asia Pacific energy team with the appointments of Jarrad Pilkington as energy strategy and policy leader, and Peter Barnard as technical director for energy. Both Jarrad and Peter will be based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Jarrad was previously the Australian energy market operator national manager of energy policy. In his new role he will focus on identifying opportunities to support clients and help them navigate the challenges associated with a rapid transition to a net zero emissions future. He was chief of staff to Tom Koutsantonis, South Australian Energy Minister, during the state-wide black out and subsequent energy plan rollout, which was highlighted with Tesla and Neoen’s “100-day or it’s free” battery. Mott MacDonald’s clients will be able to draw on his expertise and insight, as they transition to renewable energy and a sustainable future.
Peter was formerly head of engineering design and technical services at SA Power Networks. An electrical engineer with over 20 years of experience in the power sector, he brings deep industry knowledge to his new role. Peter also has a strong track record of building significant knowledge sharing and collaborative partnerships focused on emerging technologies and digital transition of engineering teams.
Jarrad and Peter’s appointments compliment a fast-growing energy team in South Australia. Well known for its work in redeveloping Adelaide Oval and in the transport infrastructure space, Mott MacDonald is continuing to support clients in the Asia Pacific region to support the global energy sector with the move to cleaner and greener sources of production and dependency.
David Johnson, Mott MacDonald’s regional managing director for Asia Pacific, New Zealand and Australia, says that the team has an important role to play in South Australia’s energy transition:
“South Australians well understand the challenges and complexity of an energy sector in transition and our team has the experience to support the sector more widely to bring positive outcomes to the community,” he said.
“Jarrad and Peter both bring excellent but unique skill sets that will contribute to great outcomes on the many projects we are supporting across the Asia Pacific region.”
“At Mott MacDonald, our purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes in all we do, in 2020 we were the first company in our class to be independently certified carbon neutral globally, and we’re committed to achieving net-zero emissions before 2040. We are therefore well aligned with the same ambition now being seen across the energy sector.”
