As a global, employee-owned consultancy of over 20,000 experts, we are united by a commitment to sustainability, innovation, and delivering exceptional outcomes across sectors including Transportation, Buildings, Energy, and Water.

We are entering a critical phase of growth in the Pacific Northwest and are looking for a senior leader to shape the future of our Portland and SW Washington Business.

This is not a traditional project management role. We are seeking a Principal Project Manager who will take a central role in leading, growing, and evolving our presence in the Oregon and SW Washington region.

You will act as a key partner and deputy to the current leadership, with a clear pathway to future office / market leadership, while driving strategic growth, client development, and delivery excellence across a diverse portfolio.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner closely with current leadership to run and scale the Oregon and SW Washington Business
  • Lead and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary team
  • Build a strong internal culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and growth
  • Step in as a visible leader internally and externally, with accelerated progression toward office leadership
  • Build and expand senior-level client relationships, particularly across the Pacific Northwest
  • Lead business development and strategic pursuits, including major opportunities with regional transport, water and energy agencies
  • Position Mott MacDonald as a trusted partner across multiple sectors
  • Identify and convert a strong pipeline of opportunities into wins
  • Provide executive-level oversight and leadership on key projects and priority pursuits
  • Ensure delivery of complex infrastructure projects on time, on budget, and at high quality
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, bringing strategic insight beyond delivery
  • Work across a diverse portfolio including transportation, infrastructure, buildings, energy, and water
  • Bring a connected, cross-sector approach to solving client challenges and creating growth opportunities

What We’re Looking For

  • A proven market-facing leader with a strong presence in the Oregon / Pacific Northwest
  • Experience operating at a Principal / Director level, balancing leadership, delivery, and growth
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Oregon and Washington
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline required (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in infrastructure project delivery, leadership, and business development
  • Demonstrated success in:
    • Growing client relationships and winning work
    • Leading major infrastructure projects or programs
    • Managing and developing high-performing teams
    • Using various systems and being ISO compliant
  • Strong understanding of regional market dynamics, ideally with exposure to major transit, water, energy and public sector agencies
  • Ability to operate as both a strategic leader and hands-on contributor
  • A multisector mindset, with experience spanning more than one infrastructure domain strongly preferred
