International freight operations
Mott MacDonald has undertaken several major international freight projects. This included developing the operational concepts and requirements to specify the required infrastructure. We've written operational safety procedures and rules to facilitate the mobilization of new freight routes, including those operating under ERTMS conditions.
Franchise support​
Our expertise in passenger train provision has resulted in us providing operational support for a number of franchise bidders. Our experience has allowed us to provide expertise in train crew, control, station resource and deployment strategies, performance analysis, capacity analysis, contingency planning, and safety legislation.
Infrastructure schemes
We were operational advisor for the feasibility stage of the Northern Hub project. The team, taking the timetable specification, ensured the engineering designs were operable and supported the required capacity levels. We also led the timetable development of the Bromsgrove electrification scheme and the creation of the electrification operations requirements specification for a number of routes that make up the Northern Hub.
Traffic management
Mott MacDonald is fully involved in all aspects of traffic management systems. Our operational experts have contributed to the concept of operations which included the identification of new role profiles. Supporting the Hitachi traffic management system option we identified the human/machine interfaces, contributed to the operations and training manuals and the migration plans for introduction in the UK.
General operations
We offer "hands on" service to clients. This includes undertaking audits, providing line management expertise, signal sighting, human factors task analysis, and safety/performance investigations.
