For more than 50 years, our waste management team of planners, engineers and environmental scientists has helped our customers develop their business opportunities in the waste sector while protecting communities and the natural environment.
Our initial involvement in waste management began in the 1960’s when we helped the Greater London Council develop its waste management programme. Once this proved to be a resounding success, we were able to build a multidisciplinary team of experts that would bring a holistic approach to waste management solutions.
Our range of expertise covers the whole waste collection and disposal cycle, and all types of waste, including domestic, municipal, commercial, clinical, industrial, electrical, and hazardous waste.
Creative solutions through masterplanning
We have developed a whole variety of master plans and strategies for countries all around the globe, most recently in Dubai we were involved in developing the Dubai Waste Management Masterplan (WMMP), that has the aim of delivering efficient, cost effective and sustainable waste management services, with one of the key targets being to achieve 70% recycling by 2025.
We offer a broad range of waste management planning services. With a full suite of analytical tools – financial, risk, waste flow, GIS and process simulation – our waste management specialists give clients practical business and operational solutions. Through our policy work with government and strategy work for the private sector, we create solutions that reflect the reality of the UK and international regulatory and business environment – for now and for the future.
Engineering the disposal of waste
Our many years of experience in the waste collection and disposal sector, has meant that we have gained a high level of familiarity with the technical processes involved, these include such aspects as composting, incineration, landfill and energy from waste. Our technical experts are more than willing to advise you on the disposal method that best suits your business and environment and help you implement this.
Our incineration expertise includes municipal and sewage sludge incineration in the UK, Russia and Hong Kong, where we have been involved in some of the world’s largest plants, with capacities up to 2000t/day.
We have sound technical experience of landfill engineering with our involvement in the solid waste improvement scheme in Indonesia. This experience also extends to design, monitoring and remediation that we provided for the former GM Powertrain Plant in Massena, New York State. In the UK, our experts have helped train staff from the Environment Agency and local government on landfill groundwater and leachate monitoring best practice.
Using waste to power our world
Our skills and experience in both the waste and energy sectors mean we're fully equipped to help clients deliver energy-from-waste developments. One of our biggest projects of this kind was working for the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, this involved creating a viable process that would burn the biogas from food waste in order to generate electricity.
We have undertaken technical advisory roles on the behalf of local authorities for projects that involve energy from waste technology. For the Kemsley Paper Mill, which opens in 2019, we have played a vital role providing technical and commercial due diligence. Working closely with our team of power specialists enables us to undertake waste procurement, technical due diligence and independent certifier services.
